Frequently Asked Questions about DragStrip 3.6 for Windows

Sometimes when dragging over a strip, my system will lock up for a long time. Is this a bug?

Unfortunately, no -- well, not one that we can fix. This happens when you have added an item to a strip that was on a floppy drive (or is the floppy drive) and there is no disk in your floppy drive. We ask the Operating System to give us information about the file (such as its icon) and it can take the OS a long time to determine that the disk isn't there. This problem is worse on portable systems where the floppy drive can be removed altogether. In this case, it can be 45 seconds to a minute before the machine starts responding. The best solution is to not add items that are on floppy disks to your strips.

I added the Internet Explorer and Inbox (or Microsoft Outlook) icons to my strip, but for some reason, when I drop a file onto Internet Explorer, it gives me a weird dialog and doesn't open the file. What's up?

Those icons are not typical shortcuts to applications. For some reason, the Operating System tells DragStrip that these are folders, not applications, so DragStrip tries to copy the files to the folder rather than telling the application to open the files. A future version of DragStrip will attempt to work around these special files. A simple work-around is to add the actual applications to the strip, rather than these strange shortcuts. Then you can drag and drop to your heart's content.
